Christopher Gorman - Author

Christopher Gorman is a Canadian author who’s had a love for reading, writing, and science since childhood. As an adult, his fascination for fantasy and magic blossomed, and he began making notes and drafts for his first novel—Rise of the Guardians—in which he explores what he identifies as the trilogy of powers in this world—nature (magic), faith, and science.

During the birth of this story, Chris worked in tuxedo sales, bars, the Royal Canadian Navy, as well as the manufacturing of solar panels, automobiles, and jets. He spent nineteen years living in downtown Toronto, experiencing both the city’s highs and its lows. This has given him the opportunity to meet and foster friendships with a wide variety of people from all walks of life.

One thing he never lost sight of, despite living in the city, is his love of nature. He spent his childhood running through fields and forests, discovering their magic and fostering a relationship with Mother Nature that still informs his work. This passion for saving the planet from mankind’s destructive trampling of the earth is woven through his novel.

Traveling throughout Canada and the world, he has participated in pagan rituals in the mountains with the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, as well as explored sites of ancient wisdom in England, Wales, and Ireland. Next on his journey of self-discovery is a spiritual retreat in Mont St. Michel France in 2021, followed by the Camino del Norte pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.

Gorman is co-host of Words with Writers Podcast, and is on the executive of the Canadian Author’s Association Toronto Branch. Canadian Author's—Toronto events bring together authors from around the Greater Toronto Area at various stages of development, publication, and experience. They facilitate the sharing of a wealth of knowledge that helped galvanize him into completing his first novel. Winding thoughtful trail through the forest

She looks at me as she rests her hand on the panel of the palm reader. There’s a twinkle in her eyes. “The real party’s out here!”

When the door opens, she pulls me through behind her.

Fresh air hits my face. Outside, there’s another pulsating throng of bodies dancing to a live band on the pier—with one major difference from inside. I freeze. My eyes widen, and my mouth falls open in amazement. The music, Sara, the crowd—all of it fades to the background. Less than ten feet from me is the harbour. Calm waves shimmer in the moonlight. We’re so close that I can almost hear the water splash against the pier through the music.

Sara places a soft hand on the side of my face. When I finally focus on her, I see that she’s staring at me intently.

“Haven’t you ever been on the lake?” she asks.

I shake my head, unable to speak, overwhelmed by the beauty. I slowly find my words. “It’s so beautiful. I’ve seen it through the Waterfront Gates, but that’s the closest I’ve been.”
